• Botafogo galleon participated in countless battles, never lost a single one. Not against enemies nor against crisp and tempest seas. Conquered the so called 'unconquerable' Tunes ( Túnis ) city. The city defenders were the Ottoman Empire army and the 'Mediterranean terror', the infamous Barbarossa Corsair ( Barba Ruiva ). 20.000 Christian slaves were released from the Ottomans. Because this so epic victory, Charles V celebrated a neo-classical triumph 'over the infidel' at Rome.

Cannons:

• As the Galleon, the cannons were manufactured in Portugal too, their materials and build quality and technology was so excellent that there were almost no cases of cannon burst, which was very common in the enemies.

• Another Portuguese innovation was the construction of hatches, openings in the hull of the ships that allowed firing from all angles of the ship, above the water line. So, if the skilled artillery wanted to, they could make the cannon balls ricochet in the water and achieve much longer distances that no other enemy ship cannons could. Even the cannons fired from land couldn´t.

• The Portuguese invention of the charging the cannons from behind, which made it possible to fire 5 to 6 times faster than the enemies. These were among many others advanced developments for that time, especially when we consider that after 3 centuries in Waterloo, the cannons were still charged by the front.
